Seminar set 7 March 15 (pm)

Fire systems technology is new to me, at first I though most systems just use a simple sprinkler and alarm system , though I do not see the use of having an automatic fire system it does make sense of having automatic system it does not much help to society but it does help making fire free or fire safe building. Although it was not on business side, I think that it supports business operations rather than directly helps business in its operations. I did not find anything useful that can be written about my career or even helping me in any business. But I can tell you this, things and technologies like this are useful for a tropical country like us. It has potential to be a safety technology rather than a business helping technology.

Big data is quite alien but I just found that big data is just a data that handles big memory. It literally means big data and there is no complication to what it means. But its complication is in its use and how its use. Though in my perspective begin to wonder how this big data is utilized in the future. Haven by hip was used though he did not much discuss about the real technology behind the big data like what technology is involved. The process of handling data was discussed and which was helpful for me because at the time of Facebook rise I was really wondering how data and all the pictures of billions of people have been processed in every second of its existence.

This traffic management has really no point for me in helping traffic in Manila, sure it can manage but it cannot help heavy traffic. Roads and people are the reason for traffic and a simple management system cannot help lessen traffic but it can help in detection of accident and crime. If the purpose of this is to lessen the traffic which I know is the problem that they are trying to address. No system can make traffic lesser unless roads are fixed and widen and jeep and buses properly swerve away from main roads when taking in passengers. In my perspective it is really people and government that need to be fixed and no technology can do anything about the traffic here in the Philippines. If you really think about it if we have good technology but bad roads and streets cars will really tend to slow down as to avoid the bumpy rides. Traffic information Technology cannot help congested roads. Such system is only useful for tracking cars.

This next talk is quite interesting especially how a search engine works specifically search engine optimization. I really do not know how search engine works and the speaker just basically explained it quite well, it could be helpful in so many cases like for example for mot it people who have needs a unique experience because it is not common for it people to handle search engine optimization it usually entails that it people are usually making systems. Of all the speakers this one was most relatable because his field was similar to our course which maybe I can ask for help, I do not know his age but I admire his excellence he is already a co-founder and CEO. I idolize his work and being a search engine optimization is not being taught in my course so maybe this could be my new goal for the next career.

Seminar set 6 March 15 (am)

Intelligent pills, brain implants, printing new skins, smart contact lenses robot care givers Lab on a chip are just some of the technology discussed and some of the technology discussed are found on the internet as said by the speaker. For me this technology had so many potential but I think this is for gimmick only that only rich people can get. Some function like the intelligent pills are used that functions specific functions like for example sickness that only be target by this pill. The speaker talked about diabetic sickness like gestational, type 1 and type 2 diabetes which actually an introduction to an emerging technology which is the bionic pancreas. It decides how much insulin should it produce for your body and actually also mentioned Gary v has this technology in his body. To my surprise it is not actually an implant but a sensor that you attach to the body. Nanotechnology was also discussed and she explained its specification and functions. It also discussed the types of the nanotechnology. Its importance to people especially when it comes to cancer. Such said by the speaker that was successful was the copy of lotus leaves. But then again this for me has a long way to go. She also discussed the safety of sunscreen lotions. But the real new technology that she uses is the fluorescence microscope. It is basically a digital image to see the things that the microscope has like the cells. The method of scanning the cell through the Fluorescence microscope is called Fluorescence in situ hybridization which is also called FISH. Such diseases that were examines is the CML or Leukemia for short breast cancer cells bladder cancer. This seminar has taught me that medicine technology is so useful but still very expensive. This technology specifically is only found in expensive hospitals and although this technology is good it proves that only rich or middle class can take advantage of this. I hope that someday I myself can try to research on how this technology can be made cheap for public hospitals specifically in the Philippines.

The next speaker started out with the introduction of pancreatic cancer and how hard it is to detect pancreatic cancer and the diagnostic methods of detecting it like angiography, CA 19-9, CT, recap which scopes through the intestine , fine needle biopsy, histology which just sees the tissue through microscope. After that he presented the idea which is by adding anti bodies and nanotubes therefore a technology that detects cancer. Unlike the previous talk which is expensive this one is cheaper which is advantageous to most. The cancer detection method did not change for six years because there are 8000 proteins that can be detected in a body. Elisa or enzyme linked immune sorbent assay that is a method that detects the cancer by changing color by attaching itself to the protein. But this method is too expensive just for detection. So this Elisa method is not useful therefore the idea of putting together antibodies and nanotubes for detection. The man behind the idea was rejected by 199 out of 200 doctors but there was this one who had him reported and because of that the idea became successful. It works by surrounding the nanotube with a paper that is used to detect the cancer. This paper is a filter paper that gets the mestholin protein that is needed for detection of the cancer. To summarize he was able to compare the two methods that Elisa is much more expensive to do and the nanotubes that is cheaper. Now this is much more better for because this is much more cheaper to use that can benefit and to my surprise this idea was done by a 15 year old which made me motivated that I too can do something that is so extraordinary and useful to societies problem like poverty. This I say can be a potential trend in medical field.

Seminar set 5 March 8 (pm)

Data warehousing is just a bigger version of a database. He talked about the history and the uses of this technology. Though such technology is new to me it is still quite similar to the database and its query is the same. But data warehousing is actually a process not actually a product as said by the speaker. Its process composes of transforming other databases to one like a paper database and normal database. These two databases have different format or look when information is extracted so data warehousing transforms the 2 database into one readable and same look. In my opinion these data warehouse has a potential and actually it should be taught to students right now not only simple databases. Such companies like airlines specifically PAL uses this kind of technology. Which is not very surprising because of the massive data it needs to accommodate? In my career, this is by far the most important talk that I can appreciate because it is useful to my course and I would certainly try pursuing this kind of work in future.

The sweep card was very informative in terms of presenting the product. The technology wise it was not pretty new but it is innovative in a ways as said by the speaker because there is a combination of features which has not been done in any kind of card and I agree definitely and I think that I would use this kind of card for my daily use. This will be a definite benefactor to everyday life and would make life much more secure and convenient to pay bills. It’s a technology that would really help a lot and I think it is the most relevant technology that an average person can use.

The last speaker was talking about qr code, RFID to use for daily things like buying. It was quite similar to the previous speaker in terms of the technology used. Although after for a while again, he was already talking about the process that which no longer concerns any aspect of technology. What I did not like about this part is that he seemed to be bored about what he was talking about. Although some students were not listening one should still be able to talk. Although I think the newer trend is NFC and nor this anymore because it is a hassle to open an app and take picture of that code which is a drag at the same time, QR code are not that even useful as o believe because it’s something that is for gimmicks only.

Seminar set 4 March 8 (am)

The speaker mentioned about yellow teeth and why is they as such, which made me think though why my teeth are also yellow but others a re white? Is It in us the nature or something that I really need to fix? Anyways I came upon across a realization that I think that it is just nature, I mean I have done everything that can make my teeth white but to no avail it is still the same and nothing has change I begin to think that all I can do is prevent my teeth to decay by using the speakers said technology and look forward to it.

The seminar talked about mostly MRI and most medicine that is used. Although the ones discussed are exactly new or emerging he was still able to catch the attention because he made it interesting through his simple words. He also discussed how a body reacts through several sicknesses like hemorrhoids, blood clots and strokes. Though I think really is that after a while he was no longer talking about technology. Mr. Punzalan was no longer talking about technology and was merely talking of the medicine itself and its effects. Although in my life, it still is very useful because I could know which medicine to take and basically this is somehow a free consultation to the doctor. His story and knowledge about medicine was interesting that it made me listen despite the few technologies discussed. Especially the facts about how medicine is and its state in the society. I did not even know that chemotherapy also kills the person too, which made me realize why people under those treatment also loose hair and get weak.

The next speaker talked about the trends of the health. This seminar was much more appropriate because he talked about the trends. Like for example the health band that can detect your needs like if you need sleep, or eat basically it just detects what you need for your healthy living. Genome editing was also talked about which was similar to the spider man movie. The spider bite actually edited the genome of Peter Parker his powers. Cancer Immunotherapy is actually a new one which actually uses immune system to attack instead of the usually chemotherapy. Telemedicine is just a Face Time chat that uses apps like Viber, Skype that instead of the purpose of chatting, the purpose is to know whether or not you need to be admitted in the hospital. This part of the seminar made me think of the future of the medical industry because the previous seminar talked about the current tech and its effects or purpose but this one really talked about the future and I think that I can help by pursuing something this relevant by researching. I really wanted to be a doctor so maybe this can be another way of having 2 professions at once.

Seminar set 3 March 7 (pm)

The first speaker was so complicated and so technical and kind of focused on chemistry which again I believe was quite not to my level. It was not as much of an emerging technology as much as it is chemistry. It did not quite click as the other speaker because all the speaker was talking was about all chemistry terms. She presented like pictures of electrons and how they react. But despite that she presented an algorithm that transforms a molecule to another image which again was quite very unclear. But I liked how she was able to present technologies that basically translate a molecule into computer generated imagery for research so that there is a concrete image of the molecule. As again it feels like I am in a whole new seminar but despite that she was very good in speaking and she felt natural and fluent in her English.

While the second speaker was more interesting than the precious one because this technology is much more easy to understand and simple. I mean if laser treatment can have this great effect on our body then imagine it when future comes, it can have a great effect on people who are body conscious. I was not as really interested after a while because it got kind of gross because of the pictures that was being shown of all saggy butt and stomach. Although she presented many technologies, I think that it was too many and I could not catch up and can’t remember. I prefer if she presented a few and focus on those.Skin treatment and molecular things are not my really interest so I think this topic would have little effect on my career. It is not really my interest at of this moment. I don't plan on doing any technology that involves chemistry or skin treatment. But of course when I get old maybe I can let myself go to this treatment of skin tightening to make myself a little bit better to look at. This is not so helpful to society but for self-leisure and to make you look good which is good but not that helpful to society’s problem.

Seminar set 2 March 7 (am)

What I really liked about the next speaker is the fact that it tackles the health issues and gives more insight about breast cancer and other technologies such as the MRI. Imagine the capabilities that these technologies can have in the health industry. I even heard that cancer specifically leukemia can be cured by a HIV virus. The technology can be utilized to further enhance the research through the use of augmentation just like as said in the seminar. Augmentation can better picture the parts that need to be research and so doctors can have a more enhance imagery of the body part and as a result doctors can pinpoint its origin.

The next seminar also tackled health but in this case it is in leprosy. I myself have not even seen a guy with leprosy let alone encountered one. To be honest it did not occur to me that leprosy is also something that is that serious. Although the speaker would use mobile technology to detect better the sickness and track the patient, I do not think that it can help better cure the sickness, mobile can help but it can’t really cure so I think that they should focus less on the mobile and work on technologies that help doctors and patient relationship. Patients for me have little knowledge to use mobile to track the sickness. Although health care information is useful it does not have the potential to be accurate. Patient might input wrong information and might miss out on details. Even as said by the speaker that there is 3rd person to guide it still it is prone to human errors. While the third seminar happened in the afternoon. Though he was informal in speaking he did catch attention of some in comparison to the other speakers. This nanotechnology has really a great potential because even in movies and games they have help build societies become better, like for example curing diseases. In my career I think this seminar can have a big effect and give myself a wonderful effect on me like for example, I can refer to them on other research that I may encounter. Nanotechnology is something that I am looking forward today because nanotechnology can not only be applied in health but also hardware. Maybe someday this technology can be the components of hardware and make everything lesser in size than they already are
